COUNT BASIE - BASIE JAM
Basie Jam is two sides of some of the best Swing you'll hear. On this record, the detail is so fine you'd swear these guys were in the same room with you. Speaking of details, a few really jump out. First is Louie Bellson playing drums with a brush on the slower songs. You can almost count the number of metal bristles on his stick. Second, I don't know how often you've sat and listened to a brass instrument up close and in person, but often, you can hear the musicians breath through the bell of the horn. You can hear this clearly on this recording. It adds a marvelous sense or realism to the recording. Finally, you can hear Louie 'jawin' in the background, just gettin' into the rhythm. Way Cool.
Featuring musicians: Count Basie, piano & organ; Louie Bellson, drums; Ray Brown, bass; Irving Ashby, bass; J.J. Johnson, trombone; Harry Edison, trumpet; Eddie Davis, tenor sax; and Zoot Sims, tenor sax. This is one of Pablo's finest and the title says it all.
