really disappointing - the engineers here have made a major miscalculation in doing little or nothing to rein in the cavernous church acoustic.
taking the example of cantata 167, the solo arias suffer from the voice image swimming round woozily - you can't get a clearly defined take on where the voice is, and you can't hear the words clearly.
the chorale at the end is possibly even worse in this respect - just a shapeless mess sonically, to be honest. it's like looking at a slide that no-one has bothered to focus properly.
the performances seem very good, but honestly it's irrelevant - MC sound should be about increased clarity of definition, and this disc goes a long way in the opposite direction.

Dårlig lyd, rapportert fra nevrotiske og teknisk fokuserte lyttere trenger jo ikke være et hinder dersom fremførelsen har andre kvaliteter, men det sies det intet om i sitatet du har hentet. Skal sjekke amazonlinken og lytte litt på fostex'ene ved mac'en min....
