Det foregår svært mye interessant både her og der og ikke minst ute i verdensrommet så jeg tenkte at en slik tråd kunne være grei.

What Is A Rotating Detonation Engine - And Why Are They Better Than Regular Engines

There's been a few stories recently about detonation engines and how they're supposed to be superior to traditional jet or rocket engines. So, what is a detonation engine, what's the difference between a pulsed and rotating engine and why does thermodynamics predict these are better than traditional engine designs.

NASA Reestablishes Contact with the Voyager, Almost 12 Billion Miles from Earth!

44 years: That's how long it's been since the Voyager 2 space probe left our blue home planet to subsequently gain new insights into our galactic neighborhood in the endless expanses of space. During this time, NASA's unmanned spacecraft penetrated an incredible 12 billion miles into space and passed numerous planets of our solar system during its flight. While Voyager 2 has regularly sent important data to Earth over the past four and a half decades, the connection to the world-famous probe was severed for many months in March of last year. We will now reveal the reasons for this and how the experts of the renowned space agency finally managed to restore the signal to Voyager 2. However, before we get into this topic, we would like to take a look at the spacecraft’s history together with you. In today's video, you’ll find out which celestial bodies the probe has already visited during its decades-long flight, which galactic milestones have been recorded in the process and what the future of the venerable space vehicle looks like.

Tesla Turbine | The interesting physics behind it

The maverick engineer Nikola Tesla made his contribution in the mechanical engineering field too. Look at one of his favorite inventions — a bladeless turbine, or Tesla Turbine. The Tesla turbine had a simple, unique design, yet it was able to beat the efficiency levels of steam turbines at that time. Normal turbines are complex in design, with blades of complicated geometry and stator parts. Nikola Tesla once said the Tesla turbine is his favorite invention and he even claimed an efficiency level of 97% for this turbine. Let’s start a design journey to understand this interesting piece of technology, and towards the end we will also verify Tesla’s efficiency claim.

The First Real Images Of Saturn - What Have We Discovered?

Curiosity, i denne videoen er det et bilde av jorden og månen sammen, knipset fra Saturn.

In 1969 the first man landed on the moon. To this day, manned space travel is not yet ready to look towards Mars or even other planets. But progress and technology, coupled with an indomitable thirst for knowledge, make it possible to explore the infinite vastness of the universe. Many years ago probes were built and sent out to collect data and information about our solar system. In the search for knowledge and possible life outside the earth, projects were created and the impossible made possible. Through measuring instruments and high-resolution cameras, astonishing knowledge about Saturn was collected during a 20-year mission.

The Almost Supersonic Spitfire - The British WW2 Fighter That Almost Broke The Sound Barrier

In early 1944, in the skies over southern England, an RAF Reserve pilot is hurtling towards the ground. This was not an accident. It was an intentional but very dangerous investigation into the characteristics of high-speed flight and the forces exerted on an aeroplane as it approaches the speed of sound.

Teen pilot makes emergency landing on Jersey Shore bridge

An investigation is underway after a banner plane made an emergency landing on a bridge in Ocean City, New Jersey, Monday afternoon. The incident was first reported at about 12:38 p.m. on the 9th Street Bridge, which connects Ocean City and Somers Point in Cape May County. Landon Lucas, an 18-year-old flying for Paramount Air Service, reported that his plane began to experience engine trouble as he was flying near Steel Pier in Atlantic City, officials said.

Venus Death of a Planet 4k

Billions of years ago, our nearest planetary neighbor, Venus, may have harbored lakes, oceans, and life-giving habitats similar to those on the early Earth. Today, Venus spins slowly in a backward direction. It's a planet knocked upside down and turned inside out. Its burned-out surface is a global fossil of volcanic destruction, shrouded in a dense, toxic atmosphere. Scientists have come to see Venus as the alien planet “next door,” a laboratory for testing ideas about how planets evolve and the challenges they face in nurturing life. They are now unveiling daring new strategies to reach down to its hostile surface. From floating bases stationed high in Venus’ atmosphere, they hope to send down new generation probes to search for clues from a time when the planet was alive. How did Venus descend into this hellish state? And how did its sister planet, Earth, manage to survive?

McNamara's Folly: The Use of Low-IQ Troops in the Vietnam War

A presentation and reading by Hamilton Gregory, author of "McNamara's Folly: The Use of Low-IQ Troops in the Vietnam." Because so many college students were avoiding military service during the Vietnam War, Defense Secretary Robert McNamara lowered mental standards to induct 354,000 low-IQ men. Their death toll in combat was appalling.

That Time the Mediterranean Sea Disappeared

How could a body of water as big as the Mediterranean just...disappear? It would take decades and more than 1,000 research studies to even start to figure out the cause -- or causes -- of one of the greatest vanishing acts in Earth’s history.

When the Sahara Was Green

The climate of the Sahara was completely different thousands of years ago. And we’re not talking about just a few years of extra rain. We’re talking about a climate that was so wet for so long that animals and humans alike made themselves at home in the middle of the Sahara.

When We Met Other Human Species

We all belong to the only group of hominins on the planet today. But we weren’t always alone. 100,000 years ago, Eurasia was home to other hominin species, some of which we know our ancestors met, and spent some quality time with.

How Humans Lost Their Fur

We’re the only primate without a coat of thick fur. It turns out that this small change in our appearance has had huge consequences for our ability to regulate our body temperature, and ultimately, it helped shape the evolution of our entire lineage.

In full: Rowan Atkinson on free speech

The forerunner of the Defend Free Speech campaign was called “Reform Section 5”. This speech by Rowan Atkinson at the launch event in Parliament in 2012 should be heard by every politician, journalist and campaigner before they start calling for laws to silence those they regard as ‘extremists’.

Sergeant: Savage, why do you keep arresting this man? Constable Savage: He's a villain, sir. Sergeant: ...A villain. Constable Savage: And a jailbird, sir. Sergeant: I know he's a jailbird, Savage, he's down in the cells now! We're holding him on a charge of being caught in possession of curly black hair and thick lips!

Plunging Into The Bay | USAir Flight 5050

USAir Flight 5050 was a passenger flight that crashed on takeoff from LaGuardia Airport in Queens, New York. As the plane took off from LaGuardia's runway 31, the plane drifted to the left. After hearing a loud bang, the pilots attempted to abort the takeoff, but were unable to stop the plane short of the end of the runway. The plane continued past the end of the runway and plunged into Bowery Bay. Two passengers were killed.
