Is it just me being a bit sensitive to this issue, but we seem to be getting more and more questions about advice on choosing new speakers.
For anyone thinking of posting yet another one, take some good advice from somebody who has speant the last two tears trying to find the perfect speaker - don't even bother listening to other peoples opinions.
Firstly, speakers are a very individual thing and one man's perfect speaker is another's worst nightmare.
Secondly, they often sound completely different in your own home. Over the last couple of years, I have heard my fair share of speakers at dealers, many of which I have also tried at home, only to find they sound completely different. It's not the speaker, it's the speaker/room interaction which is the important thing.
Thirdly, my perfect speaker, proved to be entirely unsuitable once I had upgraded my electronics. So make sure your system is more or less where you want it to be before shelling out on new speakers, or you may find yourself going through it all again.
Fourthly, some of the descriptions I hear posted here I find simply flabbergasting. I hear some speakers described as having a gorgeous open treble when I found them totally dull and boring. Or somebody describing a speaker as bass light when I found it practically shock the house apart.
There are so many variables at play here, it is simply meaningless advice and I urge anybody who's in the market for a new pair of speakers to just get out there, find a good dealer and insist on a home demo before parting with the cash.
