Building on our strengths as one of the world's finest high-end transducer manufacturers we are pleased to announce details of the most comprehensive launch of new product developments since the formation of Precision Devices in 1987.
From January 2015 onwards we will be releasing a range of new drivers and high frequency devices that seek to provide the virtues of high-fidelity sound: purity, clarity of imaging, intelligibility at high SPL and coherence throughout the audio spectrum matched with the power handling and performance expected in pro audio. Each drive unit been carefully designed, developed and optimised for a purpose. A defining element of the concept is that they work and fit together to offer a balanced and harmonious range that provides a genuinely immersive and completely satisfying audio experience.
True to our heritage, every transducer is individually hand-crafted in England by our team of highly skilled and dedicated operatives; voice coils are hand wound in-house; cones and software are selected and sourced in England with metal assemblies specified from local British suppliers manufactured in Yorkshire, England.
We are now revealing a privileged insight into the first new product releases by focusing on two new 18" transducers from the new 2015 product series and the new PDN.1852 neodymium magnet version of the popular ferrite PD.1852.
NEW PD.185N01
The PD.185N01 is a versatile drive unit intended for use as a sub bass driver or woofer component that offers outstanding imaging, clean, undistorted, high fidelity sound coupled with pro audio power handling and performance. Although optimised for use in bass reflex and closed box designs the unit also performs well in horn loaded applications.
Featuring a new FEA optimised, compact neodymium motor system configuration that allows more efficient management of the electromagnetic flux and greatly reduced stray magnetic fields, the PD.185N01 is able to provide the same power handling capabilities as much larger ferrite-based motor systems with the added benefit of greatly reduced weight. The motor system configuration and rear vent plate design have been developed in conjunction to allow effective heat dissipation and airflow around the 5" in-house wound voice coil which aids power handling and reduces power compression effects. Power handling is rated at 1000 W (AES) with an average sensitivity of 98 dB across the driver's working bandwidth of 35 Hz - 1 kHz. Carefully selected to provide optimum high fidelity audio reproduction a high quality, UK manufactured cone and surround combine with a large displacement, dual suspension system that provides excellent linear control and mechanical stability, allowing 45 mm peak to peak excursion before damage.
NEW PD.185N02
Very similar in characteristics to the PD.185N01, the PD.185N02 offers an increased BL force factor, over 30T/m, and a modified surround profile designed to limit the excursion of the cone and provide a faster transient response while allowing the same 45mm peak to peak excursion before damage. The PD.185N02 has been optimised for use as a sub bass driver or woofer in bass reflex and horn loaded systems; however, the driver's versatility allows it to be used well in closed box designs too.
Also featuring the new compact, FEA optimised, neodymium motor system configuration housing an in-house wound, 5" copper voice coil on a high temperature glass fibre former. The PD.185N02 has a higher rated power handling of 1100W (AES) and again, exhibits an average sensitivity of 98dB across its working bandwidth of 35Hz - 1kHz.
