ELAC’s server runs an embedded version of Roon, a music library and discovery application that reaps data from the Internet to make music-listening a fully interactive experience. You just link to a NAS or attach a USB drive filled with music files to the server’s back panel, download the Roon iOS or Android app to a tablet and browse away. The Discovery Music server is designed to be the heart of a serious music system offering playback of local and streaming music, rich multi-dimensional metadata and multi-room audio (support for up to eight rooms), all with an interface that anyone can master in a few minutes. Keeping in line with quality music, Tidal’s lossless music streaming service has been tightly integrated into the Discovery Servers software. Content from your local collection and content from Tidal are presented in the same beautiful easy to use interface. Additional music services are planned for 2016.

Adding the Discovery Music Server to an existing system is simple. Connect the Discovery Server to the internet and one of the outputs to your existing system.

Navigating your local and online music collection is performed with the Discovery Roon App available for Android, IOS, Windows, and OSX.
Adding your personal music collection is a snap. Connect either a hard drive to the rear mounted USB port or point the Discovery to your NAS (Networked Attached Storage) device and the Discovery will take care of the rest, organizing and gathering feature rich meta-data for your entire music collection.

Expanding your Discovery system to other rooms is easy. Whether you want the full functionality of an integrated amplifier or a simple wireless speaker in the kids room the Discovery eco-system is ready to grow when you are.

The DS-101 Discovery Server will be available in Q2 of 2016, UK pricing is TBA but will include a lifetime device subscription to Roon.

Danny Dulai sier: The only vendor selling the full Roon-in-box experience right now is SOtM and their device doesn't come with a Roon membership. You still need that from Roon Labs. More of these types of manufacturers are coming up as well."

Det stemmer. Den inneholder en meget begrenset roon implementasjon. Har fulgt denne i lang tid og hadde håpet på en kompromissløs enhet, men nå har entusiasmen bleknet betraktelig :(

Noen ide om hva som mangler i forhold til fullversjon?

Nei, ikke detaljert, men det er åpenbart at man i det minste trenger å laste inn revisjoner av roon etterhvert som de utgis.
Jeg mener dog man har gitt noen eksempler på manglene. Skal se om jeg finner dem.

Pokker, jeg som så for meg denne som en mulig avspiller i stuen nå. Roon var en viktig brikke i den avgjørelsen.
Back to square one...nesten ihvertfall.

Alså står den på egne ben med en form for roon intergrering men kan sannsynligvis på nåværende tidspunkt ikke ta høyde for fremtidige roon oppgraderinger eller tilegg

REF ROON
Just to be clear about Elac's upcoming product, the Discovery is designed to be a self-contained device, and has a built-in limited version of Roon Server installed on it. It won't have all of Roon's features like lyrics, DSD and high-resolution formats, or the ability to stream to PCs, AirPlay speakers, and Roon Ready devices from our partners. The license is tied to the device rather than to you as a customer, so it's not a Roon Lifetime license, either.
The purpose of our partnership with Elac is to provide a simple, turn key version of the Roon experience, but there will always be features in our Annual and Lifetime memberships that are only available by upgrading


Much of our current work, and future roadmap has plans for that either don't make sense for ELAC, or won't come with ELAC's offerings.
The ELAC Discovery is a great product, but it is not Roon in a box. It is it's own ecosystem with benefits of its own.
Buy ELAC because it is a great product on its own. Do not buy ELAC to get Roon. Do not think that buying ELAC is a way to get Roon cheaply. ELAC provides a great audio system with a great user experience, and I believe that it'll be one of the best experiences out of the box (once it is released). However, it is will not be Roon.
