SACD er ikke basert på PCM og kan ikke avspilles av PC. Jeg tror aldri dette vil bli mulig heller.
Avspilling av DVD-A er mulig i enkelte versjoner av enkelte DVD-software, og som standard for enkelte creative-lydkort.
Det er også mulig via uhumske metoder å rippe DVD-A til wav eller flac. Jeg tror egentlig at det er den beste metoden for å unngå å binde seg opp til sære avspillingsprogrammer og hardware: ripp alle dine CD-er og DVD-A til FLAC, og spill den av fra harddisk. SACD må du spille av fra en egen stand-alone spiller. HDCD (som egentlig er en vri på vanlig CD) lar seg spille av med MediaPlayer (eller alle applikasjoner som baserer seg på den) etter at Microsoft kjøpte opp teknologien.

"DVD-Audio's copy protection was overcome in 2005[7] by tools which allow data to be decrypted or converted to 6 channel .WAV files without going through lossy digital-to-analogue conversion. Previously that conversion had required expensive equipment to retain all 6 channels of audio rather than having it downmixed to stereo. In the digital method, the decryption is done by a commercial software player which has been patched to allow access to the unprotected audio. The method is still in early stages, for example having problems with watermarked disks. As the DVD-A format has not gained wide commercial interest or acceptance, decryption tools are still very primitive."

"SACD has several copy prevention features at the physical level which, for the moment, appears to make SACD discs impossible to copy. These include physical pit modulation and 80 bit encryption of the audio data, with a key encoded on a special area of the disk that is only readable by a licensed SACD device. The HD layer of an SACD disc cannot be played back on computer CD/DVD drives, nor can SACDs be created except by the licensed disc replication facilities in Shizuoka and Salzburg. [1]
It is possible to capture the DSD digital audio signal after the decryption stage right before the digital to analog converters of an SACD player, but since there is practically no way for the public to make their own SACD discs this does not pose a major threat."
